THE FEDERAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN

NEW: Waste data 2009

To implement the objectives and principles of the Waste Management Act 2002 (AWG 2002), the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management is required to draft a Federal Waste Management Plan (BAWP) at least once every five years and publish it on the Internet.

Following the Plans of 1992, 1995, 1998 and 2001, the Federal Waste Management Plan 2006Federal Waste Management Plan 2006 is now the fourth amended version reporting on the measures taken and their efficiency (please note the amendment of Chapter 5.3, which was published in November 2009).

The Federal Waste Management Plan is considered to be the White Paper of Austrian Waste Management. It implements the programmes (e.g., packaging, batteries) required under Community law. In the principles of treatment, it describes the state of the art necessary to avoid impairing the public interests (§ 1.3 Waste Management Act 2002).

A notification on waste shipment guidelines and principles of treatment pursuant to Directive 98/94/EC of the European Parliament and Council of 22 June 1998 on a reporting process in the area of norms and technical regulations was effected under the reference number 2006/136/A.

Due to entering into force of the EC Waste Shipment Regulation No 1013/2006 (to be applied by 12 July 2007) some waste entries and codes in the Annexes to this regulation have changed (two-list system of the Green and Amber List instead of the former three-tiered list system). Therefore there was a need to completely revise and amend Chapter 5.3 of the Federal Waste Managment Plan 2006 and to provide it as pdf.file.
Because of several amendments of the EC Waste Sipment Regulation No 1013/2006 and the adoption of relevant EU-Correspondents Guidelines a further adjustment of Chapter 5.3  "Application Notes referring to the Annexes III to V of the EC Waste Shipment Regulation" in the  version 2009 was required. Revision chapter 5.3This version 2009 completely supersedes the former versions.

A Manual (illustrated book showing examples of Green listed waste) referring to Chapter 5.3 of the Federal Waste Management Plan (EU-Waste Shipment Regulation No 1013/2006) has been published (only illustrated bookGerman version available).
