Prevention
Since 1990, a series of ordinances have been issued in order to prevent certain types of hazardous waste by replacing this waste with less hazardous waste or by reducing the level of harmful substances in the waste in question based on the Waste Management Act 2002 and the Chemicals Act.
The degree of success of these efforts is analyzed in the Waste prevention and recovery strategy in the set of measures entitled “Product-specific material flow analysis”.
Up to now, prevention of hazardous waste has been especially successful with mineral oil products, dyes, paints and varnishes, oil-contaminated soils, and particularly hazardous transformer oils and batteries.
