Introduction
To implement the objectives and principles of the Waste Management Act 2002 (AWG 2002), the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management is required to draft a Federal Waste Management Plan (BAWP) at least once every five years and publish it on the Internet. Following the Plans of 1992, 1995, 1998 and 2001, the Federal Waste Management Plan 2006 is now the fourth amended version reporting on the measures taken and their efficiency.
The Federal Waste Management Plan is considered to be the White Paper of Austrian Waste Management. It implements the programmes (e.g., packaging, batteries) required under Community law. In the principles of treatment, it describes the state of the art necessary to avoid impairing the public interests (§ 1.3 Waste Management Act 2002).
A notification on waste shipment guidelines and principles of treatment pursuant to Directive 98/94/EC of the European Parliament and Council of 22 June 1998 on a reporting process in the area of norms and technical regulations was effected under the reference number 2006/136/A.
